Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Action & Impact

At Ingram Screening, we are unwavering in our commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in every aspect of our work. As the leader in perinatal mental health screening, we recognize the profound impact that systemic inequities have on perinatal health outcomes. Our mission is to ensure that every individual, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, or ability, has access to the care and support they deserve during the perinatal period.

Our DEI Commitment

  1. Equitable Access to Care: We advocate for screening policies and practices that eliminate barriers to perinatal mental health resources, ensuring equitable access for all birthing individuals and families.
  2. Cultural Competence: We strive to educate and empower providers, clinics, and organizations to deliver culturally competent screening that respects and honors the diverse identities and experiences of the communities they serve.
  3. Representation Matters: We are dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in maternal health through our screening business model, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
  4. Continuous Learning: Our team is committed to ongoing education and self-reflection to ensure that our work aligns with DEI principles and adapts to the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

DEI: More Than Race & Ethnicity

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) encompass a wide range of differences and disabilities, ensuring that all individuals are valued, respected, and provided with equitable opportunities. As it relates to screening in the perinatal period, we will be looking at all of the differences and disabilities that fall under the DEI umbrella:

1. Race and Ethnicity

  • Cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • National origin or ancestry
  • Racial identities and experiences of systemic racism

2. Gender and Gender Identity

  • Women, men, and nonbinary individuals
  • Gender-expansive identities (e.g., genderqueer, genderfluid)
  • Transgender individuals

3. Sexual Orientation

  • LGBTQIA+ individuals (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, intersex, asexual)
  • Issues of representation and inclusion in heteronormative spaces

4. Disability (Visible and Invisible)

  • Physical disabilities (e.g., mobility impairments, visual or hearing impairments)
  • Intellectual or developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, Down syndrome)
  • Mental health conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD)
  • Chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, lupus, fibromyalgia)
  • Neurological conditions (e.g., ADHD, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury)

5. Neurodiversity

  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • ADHD and other learning differences
  • Dyslexia, dyspraxia, and similar conditions

6. Age

  • Age diversity across generations (e.g., Gen Z, Millennials, Boomers)
  • Challenges faced by older adults and younger individuals in certain industries or settings

7. Socioeconomic Status

  • Economic disparities
  • Educational attainment and access to resources
  • Housing and food insecurity

8. Religion and Spirituality

  • Different faiths, belief systems, and spiritual practices
  • Nonreligious individuals, including atheists and agnostics

9. Nationality and Immigration Status

  • Immigrant and refugee communities
  • Documentation status and its impact on access to services and opportunities

10. Language and Communication

  • Linguistic diversity (e.g., non-native speakers, multilingual individuals)
  • Use of sign language and other communication aids

11. Body Size and Appearance

  • Weight diversity and addressing weight-based discrimination
  • Unique physical characteristics or differences

12. Intersectionality

  • Recognition of how overlapping identities (e.g., a Black LGBTQ+ individual with a disability) create unique experiences of discrimination and privilege.

DEI efforts aim to address the systemic barriers, biases, and inequities associated with these differences and disabilities, fostering environments where everyone feels respected, supported, and included.

Our Ongoing Commitment to DEI in Maternal Health

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Ongoing Commitment

As we navigate a shifting landscape where Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are being scaled back under the new administration, Ingram Screening remains steadfast in our commitment to advancing equity in maternal mental health. The need for inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive screening and care has never been greater, and we refuse to let progress be reversed.

To reinforce this commitment, we are proud to introduce this new DEI Action & Impact page!  This page will highlight the tangible steps we are taking to ensure that all birthing people—especially those from historically underserved and marginalized communities—receive the perinatal mental health support they deserve.

We believe that perinatal mental health equity is a non-negotiable right, not a privilege. While others may step back, we are stepping forward—ensuring that every birthing person, regardless of race, income, language, or background, has access to life-saving screening and care.

Together, we will continue to create a future where equity in perinatal mental health is not just an initiative, but a reality.
